Phyllis Briskey, age 90, of Janesville, started dancing with the angels Friday, Feb. 17, 2017, after a short stay at Agrace Hospice & Palliative Care.
Her beautiful heart remained strong as memories were shared at her bedside. She was held tight on her final night, snug in bed with her youngest daughter as they had many evenings in the past.
Phyllis was born in Birchwood on Sept. 24, 1926, the daughter of the late Jake and Elva (Dewey) Geiger. She attended Birchwood High School. In 1943, Phyllis married Anthony Frank Egerstaffer and together they had 5 children. The family moved to Janesville in 1956 where she worked at Seneca Foods and later Norwood Mills. Phyllis cared for Anthony and nursed him through his illness until his final journey to heaven at the young age of 42. She continued to care for her family through the years as she watched over and prayed dearly for her daughters Carol and Kathryn, and her son Jack to be healed. Despite her prayers, the angels came for them before they came for her.
She is survived by her son, Anthony Egerstaffer; daughter, Joyce (Ivan Collins) Danielson; and son-in-law, Gary Youtzy; grandchildren: Stacy Calkins, Kelly (Ray) Risch, Brandon (Kara) Danielson, Jason Collins, Ashlie (Kevin) Downing, Jade (Bob) Hanus, Frank (Patti) Youtzy, Gina (Randy) Sporle, Terri (Brenda) Weatherly, Jeff Morgan, Lisa (Jeff) Jones, Kimberly Morgan, Jack (Heather) Egerstaffer and James Egerstaffer; sisters, Barbara Joyce Allen and Beverly Semerad. She is also survived by 16 great-grandchildren; 7 great-great grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Jake and Elva (Dewey) Geiger; sisters, Loraine and Arlene; brothers: Norbert, William, Robert, and Jake; first husband and father of her children, Anthony Egerstaffer; husband, Leo Briskey; daughters, Carol Youtzy and Kathryn (Ken) Richards; son Jacob Egerstaffer; and grandson-in-law, Ryan Calkins.
Phyllis was a member of the Janesville Moose Lodge. She enjoyed sharing special times with family and friends. She welcomed others into her home and would often be found sharing coffee and snacks with them around her kitchen table for hours. She enjoyed playing cards and her grandchildren loved to play against her with high hopes of getting all those mighty quarters. She often looked forward to breakfast of strawberry waffles (with lots of whipped cream!) at the Eagle Inn. She enjoyed her pineapple juice later in the day. She loved to fish, garden, gamble at the casino, play cards and dice. But more than anything, she loved to dance.
A Funeral Service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 20, 2017, at SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY. A visitation will be held on Monday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME. Interment will be in Oak Hill Cemetery.
Fly with your family above as you watch over and bless those of us who have sent parts of our hearts with you. You are loved!
A special thank you to the staff at Agrace Hospice & Palliative Care for their care and compassion shown to Phyllis during her final days.
