PHOTOS: Red Cross assisting refugees at Fort McCoy
FORT McCOY, Wis. — We are getting another look at life inside Fort McCoy for the thousands of refugees from Afghanistan who are staying there while until they can find a permanent home.
Fort McCoy shared photos of the Red Cross helping the people at the base Friday morning.
Volunteers from the Red Cross have been helping distribute many supplies to the families there, including baby formula, blankets, diapers, hygiene items, coloring books, laundry detergent and other cleaning supplies.
In addition to Red Cross volunteers, troops from Volk Field and the Wisconsin National Guard have also been called upon to provide support at the base.
Earlier this week, officials at Fort McCoy provided photos of clothing donations coming into the base. There are several items in constant demand for donations. You can find more on how to donate here.
Fort McCoy has also provided updates on biometric screening for the refugees as part of the intake process. Earlier this week, officials said there was only one case of measles at Fort McCoy, proving claims of an outbreak false.
