PHOTOS: Cottage Grove police help rescue ducklings from storm drain
COTTAGE GROVE, Wis. — It wasn’t a typical end of the week for Cottage Grove police, as some members of the department found themselves going to great lengths to help some of the smallest members of the community.
The department says it got a call at around 11 a.m. Friday about a group of ducklings that had fallen into a storm drain.
Two members of the department joined a pair of people in the neighborhood to climb into the storm drain and find the wayward ducklings. While most of the ducklings were easily scooped up, the department says there was one “wise quacker” that gave them trouble, and they had to call in the village public works department for help.
Public Works was able to use a Vac truck to run water down the drain, giving the last duckling a river to ride on top of, into an officer’s net.
The police department joked that it did not bill the mother duck for the service of getting her youngsters out of the drain.
