PHMDC hosting gun violence reduction walk in Madison Friday night
MADISON, Wis. — Public Health Madison & Dane County is hosting a walk to end gun violence Friday night to mark National Gun Violence Awareness Day.
The event comes in the wake of several mass shootings across the country in recent weeks, including at a grocery store in New York, a hospital in Oklahoma and an elementary school in Texas. While it was planned prior to those shootings, PHMDC communications coordinator Morgan Finke said the issue hits home for people more now.
“Now is a time to call out that we need to act,” she said. “Now is the time, enough is enough. Our children deserve to feel safe in school and on the playground and at their doctor’s office.”
The walk begins at 6 p.m. at 2300 South Park Street and ends at Penn Park. Speakers will talk about gun violence reduction efforts underway in Dane County.
Participants are encouraged to wear orange.
