Phillip R. Crossen

Phillip Raymond Crossen, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, March 9, 2017, with his family by his side. He was born on April 12, 1938 and raised on the south side of Madison. Phillip was married to Nancy Ann McKiernan on Feb. 17, 1968, and they moved to Monona where they raised their family. They resided in Monona for 48 years. He was a member of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church.

Phillip started out at a young age working for Madison Newspapers as a paper boy and completed an apprenticeship to graduate as a Journeyman. He left Madison Newspapers after 22 years and accepted a position with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. There he worked for another 20 years, all the while commuting back and forth to his family in Monona. In his retirement, he kept busy with a part-time position at the Department of Justice as a security guard until 2010.

Phillip is survived by his wife, Nancy Ann; sons, Philip James “PJ” (Molly) Crossen, Randall Joseph (Bridget) Dolfen and D. Michael Joseph (Char) Dolfen; daughters, Staci Ann (Michael) Wilk, Sheri Ann (Jim) Dederich and Keri Ann (Don) Padley; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren and his brother, David (Janet) Crossen. He was preceded in death by his parents; Estrella and Philip Michael Crossen; two sisters, Regina Schnering and Margaret Dyer; his brother, William Eugene Crossen; and his grandson, Sawyer Emerson Crossen.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at IMMACULATE HEART OF MARY CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5101 Schofield St., Madison, at 11am, on Tuesday, March 14, 2017, with Fr. Chad Droessler presiding. Burial will be at Highland Memory Gardens in Cottage Grove. Visitation will be held at GUNDERSON EAST FUNERAL AND CREMATION CARE, 5203 Monona Dr. Madison, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Monday, March 13 and at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the Mass on Tuesday.
