Philip “Binks” Alton
Philip “Binks” Alton, age 86 of Linden, passed away on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at Upland Hills Health following a brief illness. Binks was born on October 3, 1927 in Linden, the son of Byron and Ocea (Jeffrey) Alton. Following graduation from the Linden High School he entered the US Army stationed in Europe which included several months in Germany during World War II. Binks married the former Lois Caygill on April 16, 1955, in Linden and they were blessed with 59 years of marriage.
He was a plumber/electrician working for various businesses and retiring after 30 years as a maintenance mechanic at Carnes Corp in Verona. Binks was an active member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union. He enjoyed a special unique bond with each family member and treasured all family gatherings. His love for his Family had no limits. His hobbies included being a fan of the Packers, Brewers and Badger sports and any and all activities his family (especially grandchildren, great-grandchildren) were involved in. Binks was active in the Linden United Methodist Church and the Linden American Legion Post #493.
Survivors include his wife, Lois and three children, Dixie (Randy) Edge and Kristy (Robert) Spurley both of Linden and Robin (Steven) Wienkers of Cedarburg. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, Dennise (Adam) Ross of Waupaca; Anthony Edge of New Glarus; Aaron Edge of Madison; Ryan Spurley of Linden; Philip (Sarah) Spurley of Madison; Kyle (Molly) Spurley of Platteville; Justin Wienkers of West Hollywood, CA; Mary Wienkers of Chicago, IL and Stephanie Wienkers of Cedarburg; two great-grandchildren, Alton and Addison Ross and two additional expected in July. Binks is also survived by sisters- and brothers-in-law Flo Alton, Eddie Elmore, David Caygill, Nancy Caygill and Jack (Donna) Caygill as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, Dennis in 1974; his parents, father- and mother-in-law, Fred and Fern Caygill; his brother, Kerwin “Bud”; sisters, Katie Steele; Marge Swanson; Betty Ketchum and Joan Elmore; special nephew Lee Alton; sisters-in-law Jeanette Otteman, Karen Bennett, Billie Caygill, Darlene Caygill and Margaret Caygill, brothers-in-law Ralph Steele, Harry Swanson, Norman Ketchum, Tom Caygill, Bill Caygill, Vincent Otteman and Dave Bennett and several family friends.
A Celebration of his Life will be held at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, June 5, 2014, at Lulloff-Peterson-Houck Funeral Home. Friends may call from 11:00 A.M. until the time of services. Inurnment will take place in the Linden Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the Linden United Methodist Church or the charity of your choice.
