JANESVILLE— Phanh Phoulavan, (born Haeng Aphaiso), age 69, formerly of Janesville, passed away on Tuesday, July 1, 2014, at UW Hospital, Madison surrounded by family.
She was born in Banphaeng, Thailand on March 5, 1945 and was the daughter of Pheng and Ca (Prommajom) Aphaiso. She married Vanthong Phoulavan on May 12, 1969 in Banphaeng.
In 1976 her family immigrated to the United States, settling in Janesville due to sponsorship by the First Congregational Church and assistance from its members. She and Vanthong lived in Janesville for over 35 years, raising 5 children. Phanh was employed by Monterey Mills and SSI Technologies. She enjoyed caring for her family, spending time with friends, and especially loved her grandchildren. Vanthong preceded her in death in 2012.
She is survived by her 5 children: Vila (Michelle Abrenilla) Phoulavan of Oakland CA, Aloun (Julie Hart) Phoulavan of Maplewood, MN, Phounsin (Marchelle) Phoulavan of Apple Valley, MN, Charin Phoulavan of Portland, OR and Charouay (Joseph) Messing of Chicago; 6 grandchildren: Hailey, Mason, AJ, Amelie, Penn and Van Charles; and 2 siblings, Seng and Phen Aphaiso along with nieces and nephews still living in Thailand. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and brother, Lai.
A visitation will be held on Saturday from 10:00 to 12:00 noon on Saturday, July 12, 2014 with a Buddhist Funeral Service after the visitation at 12:00 noon at SCHNEIDER APFEL SCHNEIDER & SCHNEIDER FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY.
