Pets killed in Evansville residential fire, officials say
EVANSVILLE, Wis. — Evansville firefighters, emergency medical services and police responded Monday to a residential fire in the 300 block of W. Liberty Street just after 4 p.m.
According to a Facebook post, crews saw smoke when they arrived at the scene. Additional crews from Footville, Orfordville, Brooklyn, Stoughton and Milton fire departments responded to the scene after a Mutual Aid Box Alarm System was initiated.
Within an hour of the first crew’s arrival, the fire was brought under control. Due to the age and structure of the home, the fire was able to spread to multiple small spaces within the home. Crews spent three hours opening up walls to extinguish the fires in those areas, officials said.
No one was home at the time of the fire, but multiple pets died in the blaze.
Fire officials are investigating the cause of the fire.
