‘People thought it was pretty funny’: Story behind unique Lodi holiday mannequins

A unique holiday display in Lodi is turning heads this holiday season.

The homeowners who started it did not want to be in an on-camera interview, but they said they never expected the display to get this much attention and only did it because they thought it was funny.

The display started as a mannequin in a bathrobe in 2017. This year, the homeowners added a trailer to match a scene with the character Cousin Eddie from “A Christmas Vacation” and an additional character from the movie “A Christmas Story.”

“I thought it was great. Anybody who has watched this movie enjoys it. Seeing Cousin Eddie out there, it’s funny,’ said Lodi police Lt. Craig Freitag. “I had to come back around to see if it was a real individual.”

Many people passing by, including Krissy Krueger, also admitted to thinking the mannequin was real.

“I was just on my way to the quilt store and passing by, I noticed this famous scene from this famous movie,” Krueger said.

Freitag saw the display and used it to share an important message that’s relevant this holiday season.

“A lot of people are getting deliveries at their home and there’s individuals coming to take those. So, yesterday, when I saw this, I thought this would be a good post about porch pirates,” Freitag said. “People thought it was pretty funny.”

The homeowners said they’ve received such positive feedback and the display has brought so many visitors to Lodi, they are planning on continuing this tradition with new additions next year.
