Pedestrian killed while walking horse in OWI crash

MINERAL POINT, Wis. — A man is dead after being struck by a car on Friday while walking his horse in Mineral Point. Police say the driver of the car was intoxicated.

The Iowa County Sheriff’s Office says Craig Cheney, 55, of Mineral Point was walking his horse with another person just after 6 p.m. Friday on State Highway 39 near County Highway E.

A driver, Alexander Garic of Highland, lost control of their car and struck Cheney. Cheney was pronounced dead at Upland Hills Hospital.

Garic was arrested for homicide by intoxicated use of a vehicle.

Police have not released any information regarding the other person walking with Cheney, or the horse.
