PD: Car left running, unlocked found several hours later with teens inside
MADISON, Wis. — A Madison resident’s car that was left unlocked and running Thursday night was found by Fitchburg police several hours later with two teens inside, according to a release.
A Gladstone Drive resident left her car unlocked and running around 9:40 p.m. in her driveway to let it warm up for a few minutes, but when she came back out, it was gone, police said. Her purse was also inside the car when it was stolen.
Fitchburg police officers spotted the car just before 4 a.m. Friday, but the driver sped off, according to the release. The driver ended up sideswiping another vehicle that was parked in Churchill Drive.
Fitchburg police detained one of the two teenagers that were inside the car at the time of the crash, a 14-year-old boy, officials said. The other teen ran off.
