Patricia M. Blessing

Madison: Patricia Blessing, age 84, passed away on May 25, 2012, with the grace and dignity that characterized her full life. Pat was born in Green Bay on October 4, 1927, the only child of Claude and Marval Schumacher. Raised in Shorewood, Pat attended St. Robert’s Parish School and Shorewood High School, later graduating from Milwaukee State Teachers College. On August 6, 1949, she was united in marriage to Ken Blessing, the beginning of a loving partnership that spanned 52 years.

A gifted teacher, Pat began her career working in South Milwaukee and Racine Public Schools. She returned to the classroom after a 16-year family sabbatical, teaching at Madison Public Schools’ UW Hospital School from 1967 until her retirement in 1989. At the Hospital School she touched the lives of hundreds of young patients and their parents.

Pat loved spending time with family and close friends at her lake retreat in Vilas County. She enjoyed traveling, favorite destinations including Ireland and the Grand Tetons.

She was the beloved wife of the late Kenneth Blessing; loving mother of Kathy (Daryl), Tim (Jeanie), Kevin (Karen) and Matt (Susan); proud and caring grandmother of Bryan (Lei), Beth (Joel), Megan, Katie, Sam and Abe; great-grandmother of Dante and Aria; sister-in-law of Lois (Blessing) Zamjahn.

Pat’s family wishes to extend heartfelt appreciation to the staff at Rest Haven Nursing Home for their loving and compassionate care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Wisconsin Parkinson Association, 945 N. 12th Street, Milwaukee, or to a special fund established to recognize the dedicated staff at Rest Haven, 7672 W Mineral Point Road, Verona, in Pat’s memory.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 1, 2012 at ST. THOMAS AQUINAS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 602 Everglade Drive, Madison, with Msgr. Donn Heiar presiding.

Visitation will be on Friday at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of Mass.

Private burial will be at Resurrection Catholic Cemetery.
