Passenger carrying concealed gun arrested during traffic stop, officials say
MADISON, Wis. — A Madison man who was a passenger in a car at a traffic stop was arrested on suspicion of carrying a concealed gun, officials said.
The Dane County Sheriff’s Office said a deputy pulled over a vehicle in the town of Blooming Grove at about 4 p.m. on Thursday,
According to the report, 24-year-old Darren E. Johnson was a passenger in the car that was stopped on Highway 30 at North Stoughton Road, on suspicion of not having a license plate on the car.
During the traffic stop, the deputy noticed Johnson appeared to hide something on his lap, according to the report. A search revealed a loaded .380-caliber handgun in his waistband.
Johnson was taken to the Dane County Jail on suspicion of being a felon in possession of a firearm, carrying a concealed weapon, a probation violation and possession of THC.
The 19-year-old driver was cited on suspicion of operating without a permit and no license plate.
