Pankowski helps Badgers complete sweep of Minnesota
Wisconsin women’s hockey has waited four long seasons to finally topple mighty Minnesota. It began Friday night, when the Badgers got over the hump with a 3-2 win. UW continued their surge with a 3-1 win Saturday at LaBahn Arena.
Annie Pankowski was the key player for the Badgers. She broke a 0-0 tie in the first with a backhand goal. Then in the 2nd, Pankowski’s wrister put UW ahead 2-0.
Wisconsin’s solid defense continued Saturday. Ann-Renee Desbiens led the way in the net, notching 23 saves in her 53rd career win.
The Gophers managed to slip a goal past Desbiens in the third period when Sarah Potomak scored to bring Minnesota to within 2-1.
Sarah Nurse finished off the Gophers, scoring an empty net goal, and securing a 3-1 Badgers win.
Top-ranked Wisconsin now has a perfect 18-0 record.
