Packers hire four assistant coaches

Packers head coach Mike McCarthy has finalized his 2014 coaching staff by hiring four new assistants and changing responsibilities of five others.

The new hires are:

–former University of Illinois head coach Ron Zook who becomes Green Bay’s assistant special teams coach.

— Sam Gash, a former NFL running back, who is named the Packers running backs coach.

— Luke Getsy, who was wide receivers coach at Western Michigan will be an offensive quality control coach.

— Chris Gizzi, who played linebacker for the Packers in 2000 and 2001, will be a strength and conditioning assistant.

The internal changes include Alex Van Pelt moving to quarterbacks coach from running backs coach and Winston Moss who will now coach both inside and outside linebackers.

Scott McCurley was promoted to assistant linebackers coach, John Rushing replaces McCurley as defensive quality control coach and Jason Simmons is promoted to defensive/special teams asisstant.
