Packers Friday injury report
Despite not practicing, Eddie Lacy could still play Sunday
GREEN BAY, Wis. — Even though he’s a rookie and even though he didn’t take a single snap in practice all week, Green Bay Packers running back Eddie Lacy is listed as questionable on the team’s injury report and coach Mike McCarthy hasn’t given up hope that he could play Sunday at Cincinnati.
So he’s sayin’ there’s a chance.
Here’s a look at the full, official injury report for both teams from Friday:
Green Bay Packers
Out: S Morgan Burnett (hamstring), CB Jarrett Bush (hamstring), CB Casey Hayward (hamstring).
Doubtful: FB John Kuhn (hamstring)
Questionable: RB Eddie Lacy (concussion).
Limited participation: TE Jermichael Finley (toe), DT Johnny Jolly (neck), G T.J. Lang (back), CB Tramon Williams (groin)
Out: CB Brandon Ghee (concussion), DE Robert Geathers (elbow; on injured reserve).
Doubtful: CB Dre Kirkpatrick (hamstring), G Mike Pollak (knee).
Questionable: OT Anthony Collins (knee), S Jeromy Miles (hamstring), CB Adam Jones (abdomen).
Limited participation: RB Giovani Bernard (hamstring); DE Carlos Dunlap (thigh), DE Wallave Gilberry (knee), WR Marvin Jones (foot), TE Alex Smith (illness).
McCarthy acknowledged that it’s not ideal for Lacy to play without practicing but with Kuhn unlikely to play, the Packers would be down to only two healthy running backs – James Starks and Johnathan Franklin – if Lacy couldn’t go.
“Frankly, I thought that there was a really good chance for him to practice today based on his diagnosis after the game. Once again, our doctors are going through the procedures and trusting the information,” McCarthy said. “We still have time and the doctors are in charge of evaluating, going through the protocol. I know that Eddie Lacy wants to play so we’ll see what happens.
“It’s not ideal for a rookie to go through the week without any preparation and then play in the game, no question about it. I’m not excited about it. (But) we want 46 players that we feel give us the best chance to beat the Cincinnati Bengals. When the plan was put together on Monday and Tuesday, Eddie Lacy was part of that plan based on the information given by the medical staff. If that’s not the case – it’s always a medical decision, first. You have secondary plans, and we’ve done that, but the primary plan, Eddie was part of the thinking.”
That secondary plan could include practice squad running back Michael Hill. For him to be elevated to the 53-man roster, the Packers would have to make the move on Saturday, and McCarthy acknowledged that the medical and coaching staffs will make the call on Lacy then.
Meanwhile, Kuhn said he is “doing everything I can to get back out there” but appears to be a longshot.
McCarthy ruled Burnett out with the bye week up next but said his condition has not worsened.
“I’d say Morgan’s kind of stayed the same, is what the training staff is telling me,” McCarthy said.
Williams’ injury cropped up Friday but McCarthy wasn’t worried about him.
“Just a little aggravated. Just following procedure,” he said. “I feel with the 48 hours of treatment and just being cautious,” Williams will be fine.
