Outside review requested for Rock County jail death

The investigation into an inmate who died in custody Tuesday at the Rock County Jail is being turned over to the Dane County Sheriff’s Office for review.

The Rock County Sheriff’s Office reported that 39-year-old Dante Tyreese Wilson, of Beloit, died of natural causes. He died inside the Rock County Jail Aug. 18 after becoming physically ill inside the facility.

Paramedics were called to the jail just after 12:30 a.m. for a report of an inmate who was ill and had labored breathing.

Paramedics joined the jail nurse and correctional staff in providing medical treatment to Wilson before taking him to Mercy Hospital in Janesville, where he was pronounced dead at 1:35 a.m.

The final autopsy report, including toxicology, are still pending.
