Onslaught of new ads in Senate race
Both campaigns issue new ads
MADISON, Wis. — There’s an onslaught of new television ads in Wisconsin’s U.S. Senate race following polls showing Democrat Tammy Baldwin surging against Republican Tommy Thompson.
Thompson’s campaign unveiled two new spots on Thursday, including one airing in Milwaukee and Green Bay attacking Baldwin as an extreme liberal.
Baldwin’s ad attacks Thompson for opposing the so-called Buffett rule, which would increase taxes on the wealthy.
Polls released Wednesday show Baldwin is either tied or ahead of Thompson by 9 points. She made up ground in recent weeks as she and her supporters have largely dominated the airwaves.
This week Karl Rove’s group launched a nearly $1 million ad buy against Baldwin. The U.S. Chamber of Commerce also unveiled a new attack ad against Baldwin on Thursday.
