One car crash closes U.S. Highway 14 near Oregon
Grandmother and child taken to hospital for injuries
TOWN OF RUTLAND, Wis. — A Janesville woman and her grandson were taken to the hospital Monday afternoon after the car she was driving crashed into two power poles after she fell asleep behind the wheel.
The incident happened about 11:40 a.m. along U.S. Highway 14 in the town of Rutland.
According to the Dane County Sheriff’s department, Nancy Krake, 63, was traveling southbound on 14 when she fell asleep and lost control of her 2008 Ford Taurus. The car hit two poles before coming to rest on its side.
Krake was wearing a seatbelt and the airbags deployed in the car. The 7-year-old was properly secured in a child safety seat. Both were taken to University of Wisconsin Hospital by Oregon EMS with non-life-threatening injuries.
