Olive M. Roberts

Madison – Olive M. Roberts, age 95, died on June 15, 2014, at Oakwood Village in Madison.

Olive was born on June 21, 1918, in Madison, the first daughter of Michael and Margaret (Diebold) Faber. A lifelong resident of Madison, Olive attended Blessed Sacrament Grade School and graduated from West High School in 1936. She went on to graduate from Madison Business College in 1937.

She worked as a secretary and stenographer at the State of Wisconsin Banking Department (now the Department of Financial Institutions) for 16 years from 1942 to 1958. It was there that she met her husband, Warren Roberts. They were married on September 7, 1957, and enjoyed many happy years in Madison. When her children were still young, Olive rejoined the workforce and was employed by the Madison Metropolitan School District. She worked as a Librarian’s Aid at Odana Elementary and Orchard Ridge Middle Schools. After retiring in 1985 Olive continued to work as a volunteer along with her dear friend Helen Villemonte in many elementary and middle school libraries in Madison.

Olive was a charter member of St. Maria Goretti Catholic Parish and attended services there for more than 50 years. She was also a member of the Carefree Years Club, Madison Catholic Woman’s Club, Madison Civics Club, and the Red Hat Society.

Olive was a devoted, loving wife and mother. She treasured her friendships, many of which began when she was a girl. A gracious and lovely person, she possessed a gifted sensitivity to her family and friends. She enjoyed and appreciated beauty and the arts, especially ballet and music. She loved to have fun.

She is survived by a son, Craig (Mark Nofsinger) Roberts of Madison; a daughter, Patricia (Rev. Father Michael) Vanderhoef of Madison; a brother, Robert (Laura) Faber of Verona; and a sister Patricia Orvis of Madison. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Warren, a brother, Paul Faber, and sisters, Helen Miller and Beatrice Lang.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 20, 2014, at ST. MARIA GORETTI CATHOLIC CHURCH, 5313 Flad Ave., Madison, with Monsignor Michael Burke officiating. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Chapel Mausoleum. A visitation will also be held from 10 a.m. until the time of Mass at the church on Friday.

The family extends a special thank you to Ellen Kreger, Dawn Grelle, Sr. Marge Kalina and the volunteers of St. Maria Goretti Parish, the staff of Agrace HospiceCare, Oakwood Village and Hebron Oaks for their wonderful and loving care of our mother.
