Officials warn of scam calls asking for police donations
MIDDLETON, Wis. — Police are warning of scammers calling residents asking for donations for the Madison and Middleton police departments, according to a release.
A Middleton resident reported receiving a call Sunday around 5:30 p.m. from 715-449-4748, officials said. The caller said he was with the Middleton and Madison police force asking for donations to make sure the police have the right tools to do their job.
The caller said he was looking for donations of $130 or $100 and donors would receive a thank you card, according to the release.
Officials are warning residents that this type of call is a scam, and that police agencies will not ask for money over the phone.
Police ask anyone who has received a similar call or has information about the scam to call Middleton police at 608-824-7300.
