Officials: Sun Prairie man who accidentally shot himself while cleaning gun suffers serious injuries
SUN PRAIRIE, Wis. — A Sun Prairie man was seriously injured Friday when he shot himself by accident, officials said.
The Dane County Sheriff’s Office said a 49-year-old man on Heatherstone Ridge was cleaning his 9mm handgun at 1:07 p.m. when the gun went off.
Sheriff’s department spokeswoman Elise Schaffer said the man suffered serious injuries to his torso. First responders took him to the hospital, and he was taken into surgery immediately.
Other people were in the home at the time of the incident, but no one else was injured, officials said.
A 7-year-old boy was injured in an unrelated accidental shooting in Grant County Thursday.
