Officials seek info on trees killed by vehicle in public park

A city agency in Grant County is looking for information about property that was recently found damaged at a public park.

The Platteville Parks and Recreation Department said it is looking for any information about a vehicle that drove through Smith Park over the weekend.

According to a post online, a vehicle made two loops through Smith Park and in the process, killed trees that had been planted by fourth-graders on Arbor Day in 2015.

The department shared a photo of a small tree that showed a split that starting at its base.

The department also said the trees planted by the students had “an above average survival rate (up until now).”
