SHOREWOOD HILLS, Wis. — A caller likely stopped a burglary at their neighbor’s house in a Dane County village early Wednesday morning, officials said.

According to a news release from the Shorewood Hills Police Department, a resident called to report a possible burglary in progress at her neighbor’s house. The woman said she believed someone was trying to steal one of their vehicles. When officers arrived, they saw two vehicles leaving the area.

The release said an officer tried to stop the vehicles but was not successful.

Police later made contact with the homeowners, who confirmed that no one was harmed, their house was not burglarized and none of their vehicles were stolen.

Dane County dispatch later told the officer that the Madison Police Department reported the two vehicles as stolen.
