No hazardous materials found in vehicle following investigation near Monroe Street
MADISON, Wis. — Several area streets in Madison were blocked after police received a report of suspicious material inside a vehicle Monday.
Officers received a call shortly before 1:30 p.m. regarding a suicidal/homicidal subject near the intersection of Grant and Jefferson streets. The person was later found at a nearby hospital and was safely detained for evaluation, according to an incident report.
Information police had gathered led to concerns over the person’s vehicle, which was parked on the 1700 block of Jefferson Street.
Officers set up a perimeter in the neighborhood and reached out to Dane County’s Hazardous Devices Unit due to the possibility of dangerous materials inside the vehicle.
Police went door-to-door and asked residents in the immediate block to leave the area or shelter in-place as the investigation continued. The HDU later confirmed there were no dangerous materials found inside. The vehicle was later removed from the area by its owner, who was not the same person as the detainee.
All area streets reopened at around 8 p.m.
