Officials: Man who held woman in closet wanted on new charges

Authorities said a man is wanted in connection with an incident Tuesday where he threatened two women with a weapon.

The Dane County Sheriff’s Office said on Wednesday afternoon that 36-year-old James T. Sykes is wanted on suspicion of violating bail conditions from an arrest earlier this month.

The sheriff’s office said Sykes, who was previously living in the town of Middleton, brandished a weapon at a Middleton residence and threatened two people.

Sykes was arrested on Dec. 9 after police broke into a home to free a 22-year-old woman from a closet. Sykes was reportedly guarding the closet with a knife so she woman couldn’t escape.

Sykes is being sought on new charges of bail jumping and multiple counts domestic disorderly conduct while armed.

Anyone with information on Sykes’ location is asked to call 608-266-4948.
