Officials lock down 2 McFarland schools briefly

Wisconsin prepares education plan under lawsuit threat

McFarland High School and Indian Mound Middle School went into lock down Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

Dane County authorities contacted school officials around 2:40 p.m. asking them to put the two schools on lockdown, according to a release. Moments later, the school was notified that the individual was in custody, and the lockdown was ended.

Police said the lockdown was prompted by an adult who called Dane County Mental Health, and said they were suicidal and in the woods by the water tower.

McFarland police found the person inside their home and all weapons were accounted for, officials said. The person was taken into custody.

School officials said all doors at the schools were locked at the time of the incident because entrances to all school facilities are locked throughout the day.
