Officials identify man, child killed in Shullsburg fire
SHULLSBURG, Wis. — A man and a child were killed Wednesday in a house fire in Shullsburg, police said.
In a press release Thursday afternoon, Shullsburg police identified a man as 55 year-old Kenneth R. Royce and the child as a 6 month-old infant.
Emergency crews were called to a home on Victor Street just before 2:30 a.m., officials said. Crews were eventually able to put out the fire.
According to a release from the Shullsburg Police Department, a man was pronounced dead at the scene, and four other people were taken to an area hospital.
Officials said one of the four victims, a child, later died at the hospital.
According to the release, firefighters found two of the victims inside the home and several others outside of the residence.
Officials with the Shullsburg Police Department said they do not believe the fire was intentionally set.
The three other people were treated and released from the hospital.
The cause of the fire is undetermined, but investigators believe the fire was not intentionally set.
