Officials ID Walworth Co. Public Works employee killed on job

Man was struck by dump truck

Authorities have identified the Walworth County Public Works Department who was fatally struck by a Public Works vehicle while on the job Monday.

The incident happened about 9:45 a.m. Monday.

Walworth County Public Works crews were chip sealing on County Highway J near Sterman Road in the Town of Troy when the employee was struck by a Mack Dump Truck, according to the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office.

Upon arrival, deputies found Gerald Himebauch, 66, of Lyons, unresponsive in the roadway. Despite the efforts of the first responders, Himebauch died at the scene.

Himebauch had worked for the Walworth County Public Works Department for 19 years.

The Wisconsin State Patrol, assisted by the Walworth County Sheriff’s Office, is currently investigating the matter.

The driver of the dump truck, a 57-year-old man from Genoa City, was performing a backing maneuver when this accident occurred, sheriff’s officials said. The driver has been working for the Walworth County Department of Public Works for 15 years.
