Officials ID man killed in crash with tree
Police say they located evidence of alcohol consumption at scene
MADISON, Wis. — Officials have released the name of Madison man who died after crashing into a tree on Madison’s far east side Monday afternoon.
The Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as James K. Sewell, 39.
Police said the driver left the roadway and crashed into a large tree located near a building several feet from the road in the 2300 block of Independence Lane about 4 p.m. Sewell was pronounced dead at the scene.
It does not appear that any other vehicles or people were involved in the crash, police said.
There was evidence of alcohol consumption located at the crash scene, according to a Madison Police Department incident report.
The Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office said preliminary autopsy results indicated major blunt force injuries from the crash. Officials said Sewell’s death was due to those major, traumatic injuries.
This case remains under investigation by the Madison Police Department and the Dane County Medical Examiner’s Office.
