Bus driver survives head-on crash; Minivan driver killed

One person was killed Thursday morning in a crash involving a semitrailer in Columbia County, according to a release.

Columbia County sheriff’s deputies were called just before 10 a.m. to a crash on Highway 60 at County Road C in the town of Hampden, officials said.

Investigators said a Chevy Express G2500 van, driven by 54-year-old Douglas Lee, of rural Fall River, did not stop for the stop sign at the intersection and ran into the side of the semitrailer.

Deputies said Lee was dead when they arrived. He was wearing a seat belt. The driver of the semitrailer was not injured.

The crash remains under investigation.

Highway 60 was closed for about four hours, officials said.
