Officers will not be charged in December 30 shooting
LA CROSSE, Wis. — A district attorney has cleared two law enforcement officers in the shooting of a La Crosse man during a traffic stop in December.
La Crosse County DA Tim Gruenke found the officers acted in self-defense when they fired at 37-year-old Daniel Lexvold.
La Crosse Officer Ryan DeFlorian and sheriff’s Deputy Brandon Stoughtenger fired at Lexvold when he charged at them while swinging a chain after the stop on Highway 16 on Dec. 30.
The La Crosse Tribune reports Gruenke determined both officers believed they were in imminent danger, and neither will be charged.
Lexvold survived the shooting and was charged with various crimes, including attempted battery to police, striking a police animal and bail jumping. He is awaiting a hearing to determine if he is competent to stand trial.
