Officers talk woman out of jumping from bridge
2 officers to be nominated for awards
MADISON, Wis. — A distraught 31-year-old Madison woman was talked out of jumping off of a Verona Road bridge early Sunday morning, according to a release from Madison police.
Officers said the woman was on the edge of a bridge on Verona Road near Raymond Road shortly after midnight and told officers she was “done” and made other suicidal statements.
Police said the woman’s legs were hanging over the edge of the bridge and she was leaning forward. The bridge is about 25 feet from the ground.
The woman looked like she might fall at several times while police negotiated with her and at times was rocking back and forth, police said.
Officers were able to calm the woman down and got her to move away from the edge of the bridge.
Two officers will be nominated for award for saving her life.
