Willard "Bill" Eugene Blackmon

Willard “Bill” Eugene Blackmon was born in Kenosha, Wisconsin Sept. 16, 1931 the son of the late Ruby and Willard H. passed away at the age of 86 on July 18, 2018.

Bill graduated from Kenosha Bradford High School in 1949. He worked on area farms and at Nash Rambler briefly before enlisting in the Air Force in 1950. He served 3 years, based in Labrador, Ft. Snelling and Truax Field before being honorably discharged (SGT 1cl) in 1953. After military service he briefly returned to farm work then began college within the University of Wisconsin system. He graduated from UW Madison in 1957 from the College of Agriculture majoring in Animal Husbandry. While studying at Madison he married Marilyn in 1956. Bill continued onto Graduate studies at Oklahoma State University and received his Masters of Agriculture and Applied Sciences in 1961.

The family (Glen born in 1958) moved to the Quad Cities IA. area after graduation where Bill began a 30 year career with Oscar Mayer & Co. After 6 years in the Quad Cities he transferred to the OM Chicago plant for 1 -1/2 years then a transfer to Sun Prairie WI. and the Madison plant where he remained for the next 15 years. During the Quad City period, Scott (1961) and Barbara were born (1963). His career was completed with a 5 year transfer to Perry IA., after the kids were out of the nest and 2 final years back in WI. After the Perry plant was closed. Bill and Marilyn settled in the Sauk Prairie area. They became devoted members of Concordia United Methodist Church where he acted as custodian for 10 yrs. during his retirement. He became Chairman of the Restoration project at the church and served on various committees and bible studies. Bill enjoyed sailing, boating, flying, hiking, woodworking, gardening, and yardwork. He focused on building relationships with whomever he met. Bill was a person you could call if you needed help with anything. He was a very loyal family member, attending funerals, marriages and yearly reunions.

Bill was a beloved husband to Marilyn for 62 years. He was a wonderful father and grandfather who touched many people’s lives and will be greatly missed. Bill is survived by his loving wife, Marilyn; his children, Glen (Dorothy), Barbara (Don) and grandchildren, Brianna and William.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son Scott.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2018 at 11:00 am at Concordia United Methodist Church, Prairie du Sac. A visitation will be held at the church on Friday, July 27, 2018 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm and also one hour prior to service on Saturday.
