Mollyann Gertrude (Buschkopf) Emerson

DEFOREST - Mollyann G. Emerson, age 75, passed away on December 9, 2017 at UW Hospital.  She was born on September 11, 1942 in Beaver Dam, Wisconsin, the daughter of Clarence and Gertrude (Schutte) Buschkopf.

Molly graduated from Beaver Dam High School in 1960.  She went to MATC Nursing School and received a LPN degree.  She was employed for many years at the Wisconsin Diagnostic Center where she worked with emotionally disturbed children.

On September 12, 1964 she married Richard Emerson at Trinity Methodist Church in Beaver Dam.  They lived one year in Madison and then moved to DeForest in 1965.  After the birth of a son, Scott, in 1966 she became a full-time mother and also did bookwork for the DeForest Times Publishing Co.  In 1968 she gave birth to a second son, James, and joined with her husband to publish the DeForest Times-Tribune.  They published the weekly newspaper and a shopper for 30 years.  They also purchased the Poynette Press and published that newspaper for several years.  After selling the newspapers she became an aide at DeForest Head Start and worked in the Head Start programs at DeForest and Sun Prairie.

The past few years she has been a substitute aide in the DeForest School District.   She especially enjoyed working with the Special Education children at Windsor Elementary School.  Molly enjoyed a very active lifestyle right up until November 8 when she suffered her first stroke.   She had a second stroke November 19 followed by a brain bleed on November 27.  Her death was a result of stroke complications.

Molly was a member of Christ Lutheran Church.  She enjoyed Sunday Worship Services, the Wine, Women and Word meetings; she ushered in church and was a confirmation mentor.  She was a volunteer member of the Bethel Sales Group in Madison and enjoyed working with a wonderful group of senior citizen ladies and men.  She volunteered freely of her time to help in the activities of the Beaver Dam Lake Improvement Association.  She attended every school sporting event and special program that her granddaughters, Kya and Isabelle participated in.   She enjoyed many travels around the United States, Canada and several countries overseas.  She cheered for the Badgers in seven bowl games.  She especially enjoyed her second home in Beaver Dam Lake and had many happy times there.

Molly loved cooking for her family.  There were many happy celebrations in DeForest and Beaver Dam for Christmas, Easter, and St. Pat’s Day, plus all the birthdays and holidays.  The granddaughters loved “Grandma’s Ham”, corned beef dinners, turkey and all the trimmings, brown bread, stollen, krumkakes and bunny rolls.

She leaves behind her husband of 53 years, Richard, two sons and their families, Scott, Jana and Kya and James, Anne, and Isabelle.

Memorial Church Services will be at CHRIST LUTHERAN CHURCH, 220 S. Main, DeForest on Friday, December 15, 2017, at 11AM, with Rev.
