COLUMBUS/MADISON-Merald F. "Moon" Brockway, age 81, of Columbus, passed away on Tuesday, May 8, 2018 at Columbus Community Hospital.
He was born on Jan. 17, 1937, in Lodi, the son of Floyd and Frances (Falkenstein) Brockway. Moon graduated from Madison East High School in 1957. He worked as a custodian for American Family Insurance for 32 years.
Moon loved fishing, old country music and animals. He was a Cubs and Packers fan and closely followed State High School basketball tournaments. Moon loved everything about trains. He loved to take the city bus, have lunch downtown, transfer out to East Towne and buy something to put in his closet. When he'd run out of clean socks, he'd buy more!
Merald is survived by his sisters, Leila “Lee” Reeder and LaVonn (Kenneth) Slack; nieces, JoAnn Brink (Kermit Bergs), Lori (Rob) Larson, Dawn (Matt) Ersland and Leslie (Scott) Balfanz; nephews, Steve (Carmen) Reeder and Scott Slack; and 12 great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother-in-law, Doug Reeder.
Funeral services will be held at MONONA UNITED METHODIST CHURCH, 606 Nichols Rd., Monona, at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 11, 2018, with the Rev. Brad Van Fossen presiding. Visitation will be held at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service on Friday.
