Verona-Glenys Maurer, age 95, passed away on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at Ingleside Manor in Mount Horeb, WI.
She was born on October 28, 1922 in Oxford, England, the daughter of Frederick and Lillian (Jones) Leonard. She was a riveter in an airplane factory during WWII.
Glenys met Robert Maurer, an American Soldier, at a USO dance. They were married and had a son David. In 1947, she came to the U.S. on the Queen Mary. Glenys raised four children on the Eastside of Madison. When the kids were old enough to be in school, she started working at Gardner Bakery where she retired after 20 years. She spent her retirement in the Verona area. For the last seventeen years, she lived at the Sugar Creek Senior Apartments where she met many friends and card partners. She loved the Badgers, Packers and Brewers and she enjoyed her many gambling trips to Vegas and Wisconsin Casinos. Glenys was a member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Madison for over 60 years.
Glenys is survived by her children, Judy Hansen, Steven (Diane) Maurer and Robert (Joanne) Maurer; 7 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and other family in England.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, David Maurer; brother, William Ivor Leonard; father of her children, Robert Maurer; and a special friend Dennis Stewart “Scotty”.
A Funeral Service will be held at 2pm on Saturday, December 9, 2017, at RYAN FUNERAL HOME, 220 Enterprise Dr., Verona, with Pastor Bernt Tweit presiding. Visitation will be held from 1pm until the time of service. A Celebration of Glenys’ Life will follow the service at Sugar Creek Apartments, 206 S Marietta St, Verona.
