Carol was born August 25, 1925 in Eau Claire, Wisconsin, to Vera and Arthur Sangsland. She graduated at 16 years old, in 1941, from the Eau Claire High School where she met the love of her life, Roy E. Smith.
Carol married Roy on June 1, 1947, and they were happily married for 64 1/2 years. After living in Chicago, Il, and Oregon, WI, Carol and Roy moved to Platteville in 1957 where Roy taught at the university. Carol was totally focused and dedicated to her family throughout her life, traveling all over the world to visit them as often as she could. Throughout her life, Carol loved to watch football and was a huge Green Bay Packer fan.
She is survived by her children Jay (Jackie) Smith, Jill (Kelly) Ingersoll, and Jan Smith; three grandchildren Jenna Ingersoll, Brandon (Teresa) Ingersoll, and Alex Smith; and one great grandchild Parker Ingersoll. Carol was preceded in death by her husband, Roy, on January 18, 2012, her parents and her sister. We would like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Kevin Carr and the amazing staff at Southwest Health Center for the special care that mom received.
