NTSB looks into fatal Wis. small-plane crash
Report suggests problems came with landing
ASHLAND, Wis. — An investigative report about a fatal single-engine plane crash in northwest Wisconsin this month said the plane bounced “out of control” on the runway.
A La Crosse Tribune report said the June 15 crash killed 63-year-old La Crosse physician Richard Renwick and his 58-year-old brother, Bruce Renwick of Waunakee.
The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating. Its final report could take 12 to 18 months, but a preliminary report released Friday suggests there were difficulties with the landing.
A witness reported hearing sounds like screeching tires and seeing the plane bounce out of control on the runway. The plane then began climbing to the right and the witness thought it was going to attempt another landing. Then the witness heard an explosion and saw a plume of smoke.
