North Madison apartment building struck by eight rifle bullets, police say
MADISON, Wis. — A north Madison apartment building was struck by gunfire Tuesday afternoon, according to police.
One witness said she heard multiple gunshots in rapid succession when unloading groceries from her car. The woman dove back into her car and peered out her back window where she then saw bullets hitting the side of the building, causing brick fragments to fly off the structure, according to police.
Two people were inside the building when the shots were fired, and one of them said they saw a man firing a rifle out of the window of what they thought was a green Ford Expedition, police said.
Officers recovered multiple .223-caliber rifle casings from the street and determined that eight bullets hit the building, with one piercing a front window.
Police said there were no injuries.
