No One Hurt After Amish Family Thrown From Buggy In Crash

No one was seriously hurt when a car and horse-drawn buggy collided in Grant County on Monday night despite everyone in the buggy being thrown from their vehicle.

The Grant County Sheriff’s Department said Grant Ekstrom, 18, of Mineral Point was driving on U.S. Highway 18 in Fennimore Township when he looked down at his cell phone and cell phone charger. When he looked up and saw an Amish buggy in front of him, he was unable to stop in time.

Officials said Ekstrom crashed into the back of the buggy, ejecting all four passengers: Amos Lapp, 24, of Fennimore, his wife, Melinda, and their two children, Henry, 2, and Sadie, 7 months. No one in the family was severely injured and all refused medical treatment.

Ekstrom and his passenger, Brandon Bennett, 17, were also uninjured, according to a release from the Sheriff’s Department.

Ekstrom is facing charges of inattentive driving relating to the crash.
