Nina Capaci Soehnlein

Nina Capaci Soehnlein, 94, passed away Friday, November 17, 2017 at St. Mary’s Care Center in Madison from complications of Alzheimer’s.

She was born in Madison, WI, on May 4, 1923 to John and Rose (DeGregorio) Capaci and grew up in a large, loving Italian family on South Park Street in the Greenbush area. She married the love of her life, Donald Soehnlein on February 2, 1946 and worked at the Colonial Dairy Bar on Park St, until dedicating her life to raising her family.

Everyone she met was welcome in her home and became a lifelong friend. Her caring smile, generosity, kindness, positive attitude and of course, her cooking will be missed. She was most happy when surrounded by family, friends and children….as long as they were well fed.

After the death of her husband she volunteered for the East Madison Coalition of the Aging and was named Volunteer of the Year in 2000.

She is survived by her 3 children; Nancy (Michael) Downs, Donna (Norm) Wills, James (Lynn) Soehnlein. 5 grandchildren; Robin (Matt) Tilelli, Jeffrey (Tonya) Downs, Jamie Pierce, Karl (Paula) Soehnlein, Patrice (Ian) Ehlert. 1 great-grandchild; Emily Pierce. 2 sisters; Jenny (Jerry) McGuire, Delores Annen, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Donald, brothers Anthony and George, sisters Mary, Jo, Marge, Vickie, Rosie, and Annie.

There will be a Celebration of Nina’s life at 11:30 am on Monday, November 27, 2017, at the Cress Center, 6021 University Ave. Madison, WI, 53705.
