NHL reportedly told Bruins star to stop licking players

The NHL may or may not have warned Boston Bruins star Brad Marchand to stop licking players.

Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman wrote in a column Thursday that the NHL called up the Bruins after Game 1 of the team’s first-round series victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs earlier this month to make the request.

Friedman described the gist of the call as “We’d prefer if you could tell Brad Marchand to stop licking people.”

The report came after the veteran winger appeared to lick, or at least nuzzle, Maple Leafs forward Leo Komarov during the Bruins’ 5-1 series-opening victory April 12.

While ESPN later confirmed Friedman’s report via a league spokesperson, Marchand himself denied it with a “This is false” tweet in response to a Boston Globe tweet reporting the same thing.

Marchand was asked after Game 1 “What is it about Komarov that makes you want to cuddle with him?”

“He keeps trying to get close to me,” Marchand responded. “I don’t know if he’s got a thing for me or what. He’s cute.”

Marchand had three goals and six assists as the Bruins beat the Maple Leafs in seven games. Boston begins its second-round series at the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday.
