Wisconsin Ethics head defends himself to Republican senator

MADISON, Wis. - The embattled administrator of Wisconsin's Ethics Commission is defending himself to a Republican state senator who will be among those voting whether to oust Brian Bell from the job.

Bell on Sunday night wrote to Sen. Tom Tiffany, answering nine questions the Republican from Hazelhurst had said publicly he wanted Bell to answer before voting Tuesday on his confirmation.

Tiffany posed similar questions to Elections Commission administrator Michael Haas, whose confirmation is also up for a vote Tuesday.

Republican leaders have called on Bell and Haas to resign, saying their ability to be nonpartisan is in question. Both commissions have stood behind Bell and Haas.

Bell says to Tiffany that he repeatedly voiced concerns about the security of confidential records from the John Doe investigation leftover from the now-disbanded Government Accountability Board.
