Summer blockbuster season kicks off

MADISON, Wis. - The summer movie season got off to a heroic start thanks to the record-breaking opening of "Avengers: Endgame," and it doesn't show any signs of slowing down anytime soon.

From superhero sequels to live-action remakes, the packed season offers something for everyone. Marcus Cinemas surveyed more than 5,000 moviegoers in eight states, including Wisconsin, to find out what made their must-see list.

Here are its Top 10 Most-Anticipated Summer Blockbusters:

1. "Spider-Man: Far From Home" (July 2)

2. "The Lion King" (July 19)

3. "Toy Story 4" (June 21)

4. "Men in Black: International" (June 14)

5. "Aladdin" (May 24)

6. "Rocketman" (May 31)

7. "John Wick: Chapter 3- Parabellum" (May 17)

8. "Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs and Shaw" (August 2)

9. "Dark Phoenix" (June 7)

10. "The Secret Life of Pets 2" (June 7)

It doesn't have to cost your family an arm and a leg to see these films, despite rising ticket prices. According to Statista, in 2011, the average movie ticket price was $5.66. In 2019, it costs $9.11 on average. And that's without popcorn or drinks.

Marcus Cinemas offers a variety of money-saving options, including its $5 Movie Tuesdays program.

You can also see any movie before 11 a.m. for just $6.

With an ID, any active or retired military members can see a movie for $7.50.

And every Thursday, students and teachers can go to theaters for $6, after showing an ID. They'll also get a free popcorn.

Marcus Cinemas also asked moviegoers about their favorite summer hits of the past decade, and they selected five films among their favorites. It was a tight race for the third, fourth, and fifth spots:

1. "Avengers: Infinity War" in 2018 (66%)

2. "Jurassic World" in 2018 (52%)

3. "Toy Story 3" in 2010 (42.91%)

4. "Spider-Man: Homecoming" in 2017 (42.72%)

5. "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2" in 2011 (42.27%)
