Texas man sentenced to 10 years in prison for trying to have sex with minor, possessing child porn

MADISON, Wis. - A Texas man was sentenced to 10 years in prison Friday for trying to have sex with a minor in Eau Claire and possessing child pornography.

A news release from the Wisconsin Department of Justice said Robert Hosler, 27. of Austin, Texas was convicted in May after a one-day court trial of two counts that involved interstate communications and travel to have illegal sexual activity. He also pleaded guilty to possession of child pornography.

The release said Hosler responded to an online advertisement last August that offered a 12-year-old child for sexual purposes. An undercover officer was actually the one to post the advertisement.

Hosler flew from Texas to Minnesota, rented a car and went to a predetermined spot in Eau Claire. He expressed interest in possibly recording his sexual contact with the minor, as video equipment was found in his car.

Officials later arrested him Sept. 6 of last year.

Authorities also found that Hosler's cellphone had explicit depictions of minors engaging in sexual conduct, with at least one of them showing a child who was younger than 12 years old.
