A pedestrian was taken to a hospital after being hit by a vehicle on Madison's east side during the Tuesday evening rush hour.

MADISON, Wis. — A woman was taken to a hospital after being hit by a vehicle on Madison’s east side during the Tuesday evening rush hour.

Dane County dispatchers said the crash was reported at 4:57 p.m. near the intersection of Cottage Grove Road and Vernon Avenue.

Madison Fire Departments spokesperson Cynthia Schuster said crews with the Madison Fire Department responded to the scene and took the woman to an area hospital for treatment. The city’s police department later said the person who was hospitalized was the pedestrian.

Authorities said the woman was walking her dog and was in the crosswalk when the driver hit her.

Madison police said the driver stayed at the scene and cooperated with their investigation. A passerby also rendered aid to the pedestrian until emergency crews arrived.

The Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s 511 map showed traffic in the area had slowed significantly as crews responded to the scene.
