At peak, roughly 20 Metro buses stuck on snowy Madison roads Friday

According to Stammer, most of the buses got stuck due to hills, with Observatory Drive on the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus posing a particular challenge.

“We’re rerouting some of those routes that are on hilly areas. Or it gets stuck pulling in and out of bus stops is pretty common as well, especially if there are parked cars nearby,” she said.

It’s just something that’s expected when inclement weather moves in, Stammer added.

“In these extreme circumstances, when we need to reroute, we do. They’re very few and far between,” she said.

Riders can track their buses and plan out their routes online on the Metro Transit’s Winter Weather Riding webpage.

“We are not immune to snowstorms any more than any other traffic is. So when snow happens, there will be delays,” Stammer said.
