Police: Two pepper-sprayed during Willy Street robbery

Suspect arrested late Sunday

MADISON, Wis. - Two people were hit by pepper spray during a robbery in downtown Madison Saturday morning, police said.

Police said officers were sent to Fuegos restaurant at 904 Williamson Street at 10 a.m. for a reported robbery in progress. The victim told the officers he had planned to buy a cellphone from a man, but when they met, the man took his wallet and ran.

The victim told officers that he caught the thief and began fighting with him when another man, one of the victim's co-workers, intervened to help, police said in a news release. The thiefsuspect then pepper-sprayed both men and fled.

The victim' wallet and its contents were recovered, the release said.

Police arrested the robber at his job later Saturday.
