Police seek to ID man suspected in widespread fraud across southern Wisconsin

BEAVER DAM, Wis. - Police are looking for a man suspected in credit card thefts and fraud in Wisconsin and Illinois.

The Beaver Dam Police Department said Friday that it is investigating a theft by fraud complaint in which an unidentified person stole multiple credit cards from a local YMCA. The cards were taken either from the victim’s vehicle or locker. The cards were then used at various retailers.

During the investigation, police discovered that this suspect is likely involved in very similar incidents across southeastern Wisconsin and northern Illinois. Police said investigators believe it's possible that the man will continue the theft-by-fraud activity in the region and may expand to other areas.

Beaver Dam Detective Daniel Kuhnz said at least 20 agencies across our region have open investigations involving this type of activity and likely this person.

The losses incurred by victims as a result of the fraud is likely upwards of $100,000, according to a news release.

Police released multiple photos Friday and asked for the public's help in identifying the individual and the vehicle pictured. The vehicle is a dark blue Chrysler minivan and often has stolen or temporary tags or no plates at all.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Kuhnz at 920-887-4613, extension 521 or dkuhnz@bdpd.org.

Police also advised citizens to be sure valuables like bags, purses, wallets that are left unattended are properly secured and out of view.
